The Republic of Cyprus is the 3rd largest island in the Mediterranean, known as the paradise of European tourism with up to 4 million tourists per year.
Cyprus has been a member of the Commonwealth since 1961 and joined the European Union in 2004. In 2008, Cyprus joined the Eurozone. Tourism and services (financial and medical services), industry (mining, manufacturing, chemicals, etc.), and construction are the main economic sectors of Cyprus.
The Republic of Cyprus inherits the typical climate of the Mediterranean region, with over 300 sunny days per year and an average annual temperature of 24 degrees Celsius.
